However, the Webcam Server requires your PTG Touch Surveillance system to have an "always-on" internet connection, namely ADSL / Broadband.
If you have a fixed IP address (i.e. one the always remains the same), you can enter this into the address bar of Internet Explorer and connect to your cameras. Quite often, you will have a dynamic IP address (i.e. one that may change every day/week or whenever you connect to the Internet). Geovision has developed two software solutions to cope with dynamic IP, Dynamic DNS and Dynamic IP both included with every PTG Touch system.
Dynamic DNS
Dynamic DNS will continually update a direct DNS address to point to your PTG Touch Webcam Server as the IP changes. This DNS address will be in the form:
So if you registered your PTG Touch System using Dynamic DNS as webcamserver, you would access your Geovision system and view your cameras using Internet Explorer and entering the web address:
webcamserver.dipmap.com
Dynamic IPDynamic IP works the same as Dynamic DNS but instead of entering a direct DNS (or internet) address such as "webcamserver.dipmap.com", a link is created to your PTG Touch system on a webpage which can be found at:
This shows an alphabetical list of PTG Touch Surveillance Systems which are using Dynamic IP. Once you have found the name to your PTG Touch surveillance system, you simply click on the link and you are sent to your PTG Touch Webcam Server page.
